Stuart Marcus is the chief clinical officer at Amita Health in Chicago, Illinois. Previously, he was president and CEO of St. Vincent’s Health Services in Bridgeport, Connecticut, which is part of Ascension Health. Before that, he served as its chief medical officer, clinical vice president and chairman of St. Vincent’s department of oncology as part of a 10-year career with Ascension. A specialist in gastrointestinal cancer surgery, Marcus earned his medical degree from Duke University and an MBA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Marcus joined St. Vincent's in 2006 as clinical vice president and chairman of the department of oncology. He led development of the system's integrated cancer center, which opened in 2010 and joined the M.D. Anderson Cancer Network in 2013. He subsequently served as CMO and medical center president.
He is a professor of surgery at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University and was instrumental in establishing St. Vincent's as the school's principal clinical partner. His speaking and writing engagements most recently have focused on patient safety, health care reform, clinical integration and other strategies for success in the rapidly changing health care environment.
