Michael Gomez is a division medical officer on the Neonatal Regional Response Team at Mednax Health Solutions. A board-certified physician in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine by the American Academy of Pediatrics, Gomez has over 25 years of experience in medicine, serving in clinical, research, and leadership roles in the greater Texas area.
After completing his Residency at Columbia University/Columbia Presbyterian Babies Hospital and his fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital, Gomez remained at Baylor College of Medicine. There, he served as a catalyst for Baylor’s rise to one of the leading programs for hypoxic respiratory failure in the country. From 1997-2003, Gomez was the Medical Director and Practice Manager of a private practice Neurology group in San Antonio before joining the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, where he remained until 2015.
In addition to teaching at Oklahoma, Gomez also participated in nationally funded research in immunoprophylaxis against RSV disease, synthetic surfactant development, and the use of inhaled nitric oxide for special populations of preterm infants. This research led him to accept a position in 2015 as University of New Mexico’s Professor of Pediatrics and Neonatology.
Since 1975, the American Association for Physician Leadership has helped physicians develop their leadership skills through education, career development, thought leadership and community building.
The American Association for Physician Leadership (AAPL) changed its name from the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE) in 2014. We may have changed our name, but we are the same organization that has been serving physician leaders since 1975.
