Physician leadership matters in health care, according to Gina Cronin, executive director for the Global Leadership and Learning Institute with Ohio’s Cleveland Clinic.

“As a physician-led organization, there are our most powerful tool,” she says in a video posted by Cleveland Clinic Executive Education. “They know everything there is to know about the clinical environment, but they also have valuable life lessons to share with each of our programs.”

Cronin will bring her expertise to a free, one-hour webinar, “Physician Leadership in High-Performance Hospitals,” in partnership with the American Association for Physician Leadership. The session is scheduled for noon on Wednesday, July 11.

For the webinar, Cronin will join another expert in physician leadership education, AAPL President and CEO Peter Angood, MD, FRCS(C), FACS, MCCM.

The webinar will include discussion about the physician's role in attaining high performance, physician-driven operating models, fostering a culture of performance excellence, and physician engagement and succession planning.

The webinar comes a month after Cleveland Clinic and AAPL announced a partnership focused on advancing personal and organizational transformation for physician leaders through education, exposure and experience for physician leaders.

The alliance involves coordination of joint educational programming and the offering of exclusive, reciprocal rates for members and participants of both organizations. Cleveland Clinic and AAPL will also provide content to benefit physicians and physician leaders not currently engaged with either organization.

At Cleveland Clinic, a nonprofit multispecialty academic medical center and health system, Cronin guides leadership and learning for more than 50,000 employees – all known as “caregivers.” Her duties include the design and deployment of leadership development, performance and talent management, organizational effectiveness and learning technologies.

Angood, a surgeon and longtime advocate for physician leadership as a source for sustainable solutions, has led AAPL since 2011. The nonprofit association, based in Tampa, Florida, is the only professional organization solely focused on leadership education and management training for the physician workforce.

For over 45 years.

The American Association for Physician Leadership has helped physicians develop their leadership skills through education, career development, thought leadership and community building.

The American Association for Physician Leadership (AAPL) changed its name from the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE) in 2014. We may have changed our name, but we are the same organization that has been serving physician leaders since 1975.
