It is Slonim’s first time on the list.
He was voted No. 37 by peers and the magazine’s executive editors for a list that honors executive clinicians from all sectors of the healthcare industry who are exceptional in the execution of their responsibilities, achievements, innovation and commitment to their communities while steering their organizations and delivery systems through dynamic and challenging times.
Aurora Aguilar, editor of Modern Healthcare, describes Slonim as an honoree “who has revolutionized healthcare through boldly advancing life-saving clinical care through genetics, the adoption of health information technology and the commitment to continually improve health and health care in Nevada and across the U.S.”
An AAPL member since 2002, Slonim is noted for his impressive work with the Healthy Nevada Project, a massive population health initiative based on the genetic testing of some 38,000 current participants, combining genetic, environmental, social and clinical data to address individual and community health needs with the goal of improving health across the state and the nation.
“We have the tools, ample technology and science to make this a reality,” says Slonim.
The project is returning clinical results on three genetic conditions including Familial Hypercholesterolemia, BRCA Positive gene related to Hereditary Breast-Ovarian Cancer Syndrome, and Lynch Syndrome, a precursor to colon cancer. The next phase of the initiative is to extend its reach and improve health outcomes for 250,000 people in communities across the United States through the creation of the Healthy USA Project.
“Dr. Slonim’s commitment has extended beyond traditional health care to include community health and well-being,” says Renown Health Board of Trustees Chair James DeVolld. “Through his leadership, he works to improve health care through science, research and genetics – and forge community partnerships that improve lives and develop innovative models that are improving health care in Nevada through the Healthy Nevada Project.”
