The guide encourages medical directors to develop skills for promoting a culture of safety and quality through education and improved organizational methods.
The American Association for Physician Leadership and Arthur J. Gallagher Co. have collaborated to produce the “Guide for Medical Directorships,” which promotes candid discussions about how best to approach the development, support and assessment of the many medical directors within an integrated hospital or health system to meet the demands for enhanced value-based care.
The guide encourages medical directors to develop skills for promoting a culture of safety and quality through education and improved organizational methods; professional leadership with a focus on improved care; effective use of resources, including staff; and strategic planning for the transformation of clinical services.

About Physician Leadership News
Now more than ever, physicians are leaders in their organizations and communities.
The American Association for Physician Leadership maximizes and supports physician leadership through education, community, and influence. We promote thought leadership in health care through our Physician Leadership News website, bimonthly Physician Leadership Journal and other channels.
We focus on industry leadership issues such as patient care, finance, professional development, law, and technology. Association announcements and news of association events can be found.
AAPL's award-winning print publication, the Physician Leadership Journal, welcomes originally authored manuscripts for peer review that meet competency, formatting and preparation criteria. To review these guidelines and other information regarding submissions, click here.
Since 1975, the American Association for Physician Leadership has helped physicians develop their leadership skills through education, career development, thought leadership and community building.
The American Association for Physician Leadership (AAPL) changed its name from the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE) in 2014. We may have changed our name, but we are the same organization that has been serving physician leaders since 1975.
