What is the CPE?
CPE is an acronym that stands for Certified Physician Executive. It is a credential and title that tells employers that you’re not only an accomplished physician, but someone who also has the necessary leadership, management, and communication skills required to effectively improve the quality and efficiency of a health care organization.
Why Pursue a CPE Credential?
Physicians who work one-on-one with patients in a clinical role are susceptible to fatigue, disengagement, and eventually burnout. This can lead physicians to seek a role in the health care industry that involves less pressure, but still allows them to create change within a health care organization. Physicians who earn a CPE can more easily transition from a clinical role to an executive health care management position, such as:
- Chief Medical Officer (CMO)
- Medical Director
- Chief of Staff
- Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
- Among many others
