This course is part of 2022 Fall Institute, an in-person event delivered in Scottsdale, AZ in October 2022.
This course is designed to help learners develop deeper clarity about the nature, scope, and utility of emotional intelligence, specifically as it relates to the healthcare context. Emotional intelligence encompasses a wide range of skills that not only reflect one’s ability to process emotions, but even more importantly, their ability to communicate with, manage, and influence others. In essence, emotional intelligence is all about optimizing relationships; and seeing as the functionality of healthcare systems rely solely on people, relationship is vital to what we do as physician leaders.
Following the completion of the Emotionally Intelligent Physician Leader Course, learners will be able to demonstrate heightened self-awareness, pristine communication skills, and competence within interpersonal dynamics. Relationships with peers, patients, and staff can strengthen as a result, leading to greater healthcare outcomes. These intended learning outcomes will be facilitated through the sharing of strategic insights, analysis of case studies, and completion of individual and group activities within the course.
We are excited to announce new changes being implemented into our course structure for Fall Institute to better support your professional development. For all courses, classroom time has been reduced to five hours daily to accommodate more time for in-person networking and community development. To ensure you are still receiving complete instructional time, some instructional material for every course will be completed as pre- and post-work. As such, once you have completed this course, in addition to completing the course assessment and evaluation, you will be asked to submit an action plan that will identify and summarize the ways you intend to apply the course content to your practice. You will also be required to provide feedback on a peer’s action plan. You can expect to spend about two hours on this post-work activity and will have four weeks following the course to complete it. It is important to note, completion of this post-work activity will be required to receive your CME for the course.
When you enroll in this course, you will also receive a copy of the book “The Emotionally Intelligent Physician Leader,” which is authored by the course instructor, Susan Childs, and serves as the foundation for course content.
For those seeking to truly develop mastery in the areas of behavior and physician management, this course offers a great synergy with our courses Resolving Conflict and Managing Physician Performance. Consider taking these courses in conjunction with one another at Fall Institute or in our self-study format.
