Margot Sanger-Katz writes in the New York Times (4/18, Subscription Publication) “The Upshot” blog that some areas may find themselves with no Affordable Care Act options for 2018. Sanger-Katz argues that this risk is increasing “as the administration sends negative signals about the future of the market.” If no insurers choose to sell ACA plans in certain areas, then the ACA subsidies for which residents of those areas are eligible “will become worthless. Most would end up uninsured.” She adds that this issue could impact just a few ACA customers, or it could affect a significant portion of the 11 million people who currently have ACA plans.
