NEWS RELEASE
Washington, D.C., March 18, 2020 —
We hope that you, your family, and the various teams at your organization are doing well during our current COVID-19 (coronavirus) emergency. We appreciate these are trying times for you and wish you well as you lead or manage the situation. Our very best for the coming weeks.
Everyone in leadership recognizes the unique situation we face, here in our country and worldwide. As physicians, we also recognize our unique obligation to assist with leading the country through the next several months.
In this regard, we’ve created a new, tailored resource library of collated key articles, podcasts, webinars and other resources, specific to this evolving situation to assist you through this time at physicianleaders.org/resources/leadership-in-the-midst-of-crisis. This is a free resource we encourage you to utilize and, to disseminate widely for others to use, as you see fit.
The name of this newly developed resource is Leadership in the Midst of Crisis and is readily available for everyone in health care. This information will be reviewed and updated with additional material on a routine basis so please check more than once.
We are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation daily, are collaborating with other healthcare associations on best practices and will routinely update AAPL’s communications to assist you as best we can. In this regard, for everyone’s safety, our AAPL staff are now working remotely. Our intent is to provide our constituency the best of service during these complicated times so please don’t hesitate to contact AAPL for any of your needs or questions.
During this time, we know your responsibilities are multiplying and changing rapidly. We have therefore determined that your courses toward the AAPL Certified Physician Executive credential will have full access and will not expire in the near future. We will extend those courses nearing expiration through June 30, 2020 and will continue to provide further extensions as needed.
Additionally, AAPL will be offering its online distance education content at a 20% discount until the end of June, 2020 and will reassess this approach as the ongoing impact of COVID-19 is recognized. We are also exploring whether we should reschedule our live events to later this year and will provide updates in a timely fashion.
Physicians have always led in times of crisis and we thank you for your leadership in this trying time. Thanks for all your work in your communities and for all you are doing to address this pandemic.

Since 1975, the American Association for Physician Leadership has helped physicians develop their leadership skills through education, career development, thought leadership, and community building.
The American Association for Physician Leadership (AAPL) changed its name from the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE) in 2014. We may have changed our name, but we are the same organization that has been serving physician leaders since 1975.
