Howard A. Shaw, MD, MBA, CPE, FACOG, FACHE, FAAPL is currently Chief Medical Officer at Medical City Denton in Denton, Texas. Prior to arriving at Medical City, He was Chief Medical Officer at Great Plains Health in North Platte Nebraska. He has served as Medical Director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Yale-New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael Campus. From 2011-2012, Dr. Shaw was the Chairman of Women’s and Children’s Services at the Hospital of Saint Raphael (HSR) in New Haven, CT. From 2004-2011, he was Chairman and Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. From 1992-2004, he served in multiple roles at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, Tulsa including, Residency Program Director, Medical Student Director and Vice-Chair of the Department of Ob/Gyn.
Dr. Shaw is a nationally recognized educator and has served as an American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology Examiner and Chair of the CREOG Examination Committee (a national committee of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists). He has served on the ACGME Ob/Gyn Milestones Committee, the American College of Radiology Appropriateness Criteria Expert Panel on Interventional Radiology and the ACPE Patient Safety and High-Reliability Task Force. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Association for Physician Leadership. He completed coursework through the ACPE and received his MBA degree from Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in February 2009.
Dr. Shaw received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry and his MD degree from the University of Kansas. He is widely published in the world literature and has been an invited speaker regionally, nationally and internationally. Dr. Shaw was inducted into the Mid-America Education Hall of Fame in November of 2013. He is a fellow of both the American College of Physician Executives and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
