Dr. JD Polk, DO, MS, MMM, CPE, FACOEP, FAsMA, is the agency Chief Health and Medical Officer of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) located at NASA Headquarters in Washington D.C. Dr. Polk has worked in numerous positions at Des Moines University, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.
In addition to being board certified in both emergency medicine and aerospace medicine, Dr. Polk holds a Master in Science in Space Studies from the American Military University, a Master in Medical Management from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business, a Masters Certificate in Public Health from the University of New England, and is a Certified Physician Executive.
He has received numerous awards and commendations including citations from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, White House Medical Unit, Association of Air Medical Services, U.S. Air Force, and has received the NASA Center Director’s Commendation, the NASA Exceptional Service Medal, the National Security and International Affairs Medal and the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal.
